Welcome to the DW Healing Arts Be Well series of wellness tips for January 2016. Each day I will highlight a card from my Balance Resource Cards decks. The wellness resources will help you bring balance to your body, mind and spirit if used on a regular basis.
Take a moment right now, and practice today's wellness tip as you read this. Grab your journal, turn off your phone, find a quiet place without interruptions and set a timer for 20 or 30 minutes. This is time you are investing in yourself. You are worth it.

One simple way to clear your mind is to count breath cycles backwards from 4, then repeat. An inhale and exhale is one complete breath cycle. Breathe - 4 - Breathe - 3 - Breathe - 2 - Breathe - 1 - Breathe - 4 - Breathe - 3 - Breathe - 2 - Breathe - 1 (repeat for as many cycles as desired.)
Another technique is to Do Nothing for two minutes. Set a timer, and then sit quietly, doing nothing. Notice how often you have the urge to "do" something. make a choice to sit still and simply "be" in silence.
Meditation takes practice. When you are completely relaxed, make a mental note of how your body feels. As you become more experienced, you will be able to reach this relaxation response with greater ease. Note which techniques allow you to drop into this expanded state of awareness.
